I am very novice with the overall free software and open source. I am currently playing with Ubuntu 11.10 and oen of my classes require Python 2.6. I am just confused on how to do that. I heard that simple downloading doesn't work like that in Ubuntu. that you need to unpacked some stuff then update and what not. Also, how to path python 2.6 so when I type "python" on the terminal. Python executes. Please, I am trying to learn this and I can't find anything concrete on how to do this. Also, if I were to put my Python code into a text editor (Gedit). How would I go about running it through python. I think extern might have something to do with that and also I think i need to use "#include/binn/python26" or something like that.
